Quarts de Chaume Grand Cru

The Quarts de Chaume AOC is a Grand Cru sub-appellation of 123 acres within the Coteaux du Layon AOC. Historically, “Quarts de Chaume” signified the finest “quarter” of fruit harvested in the Chaume appellation and given to the Lord who owned the land for property tax payments.

This delectable late harvest wine is made from very low-yield noble rot-affected Chenin Blanc grapes, which are hand-harvested in successive passes. Grapes affected with noble rot are not guaranteed each year so these wines are only produced in ideal years.  And, when conditions to promote botrytis do exist for a harvest, the yields are very small.  Quarts de Chaume has incredible aging potential, some vintages showing beautifully after a half century of cellaring. The finished wine displays a striking balance between acidity and sweetness.

Quarts de Chaume

2010

Color: Golden yellow color with ambers brilliant glints.
Nose: Notes of candied pineapple, quince cheese and dried apricot. Aromas of Honey and spices like vanilla
Palate: Te attack is incredibly unctuous. The richness is surprising and the final with impresive aromas of candied fruits.
